1.Introduction

The Division of Financial Market (the fomer name is Division of Securities Business) is an entity belonging to the Faculty of Banking of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City. Members of the Division are active in teaching and researching and almost post-graduated from well-known universities in Vietnam and abroad. The Division comprises 12 members as below:

2. Brief introduction of courses under the Division’s responsibilities

Financial markets

This course is designed to survey the field of finance and provide the foundation for more advanced finance coursework. The course will introduce finance principles to understand the functioning of securities, insurance, and banking industries. Students will be able to grapes the knowledge of practices today and analysis of prospects for the future.

Analysing Investment and Securities

This course’s goal is to understand a thought process for equity security analysis. The course allows students to apply what they have learned by presenting a thorough analysis of a company and an investment conclusion regarding its company’s shares. Furthermore, students will develops the essential tools the securities analyst needs, including basic capital market concepts, competitive analysis and valuation methods.

Derivatives

This course provides strategies and applications of derivatives as well as develops understanding the specifics of derivative markets. Specific types of derivatives traded on world exchanges include: futures/forwards, swaps, through vanilla options, exotic options, ending with advanced financial instruments with different underlying assets, like volatility, interest rates, credit, rice or commodities. Both theoretical (pricing) and practical (trading, risk management) aspects will be addressed during the course.

Investment Portfolio Management

This course is based on core investment principles, theories and techniques previously studied. This course provides participants with both the technical and conceptual tools that allow them to better understand the usefulness of different portfolio construction approaches. The course will also discusses portfolio construction strategies applied in equity portfolio management and alternative indexing strategies.

Financial modelling

This course offers extensively use of Microsoft Excel as well as advanced techniques to support students in solving financial problems that mostly encountered in investments and in their real life situations. To find ways to tackle these problems, students will be able to develop financial models and experience hand on practice to create numeric formulas, graphical illustrations, forecasting cash flow, risk management, estimated cost of capital and efficient capital structure and learn technique how to optimize their investment portfolios.

Securities companies

The course equips participants a profound understanding of different operating models of securities companies. Specifically, participants will learn techniques on business services and financial risks in relation to securities companies including securities trading, dealing, and consultancy services. How economic, structural, competitive and regulatory changes are shaping strategy in securities companies are also discussed.

Securities laws

This course is designed to equip knowledge on principles of securities laws to participants. The course will introduce basic regulations regarding the functioning of securities markets, financial intermediaries in securities markets as well as members in the markets such as insurance companies, banking sectors, fund managements and investors…. Students will be able to capture the knowledge via case studies and group discussions.
